English III is the third course out of the 8 levels of English offered by Instituto de Idiomas. In this course, students are given a great deal of opportunities to practice the four basic language skills so that they continue to improve their English proficiency level.


3. RATIONALE

Communication takes place anywhere and anytime. English as one of the most widespread languages in the world has quite an important role in establishing and maintaining crosscultural relations. Therefore, the Instituto de idiomas is committed to teaching students how to communicate with one another in English effectively in order to cope with usual everyday situations that national and international encounters may embrace.


4. OBJECTIVES

4.1. GENERAL OBJECTIVES
To understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. with some difficulty. To deal with most situations likely to arise while in an area where the language is spoken but with some difficulty. To produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest with some difficulty. To describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans with some difficulty.

4.2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
READING:
Comprehend main ideas and details.
Distinguish between accurate and inaccurate information.
Relate and organize ideas from multiple texts.
Make Inferences to understand ideas not stated directly.

WRITING:
Connect ideas using compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
Write a well-organized paragraph with a strong topic sentence, supporting details, and concluding sentence.
Clearly communicate facts, examples, and explanations.

LISTENING:
Identify main ideas and specific details.
Infer points of view, attitudes, and emotions.
Listen and take notes.

SPEAKING:
Ask for and respond to opinions.
Adapt language to provide stronger and weaker suggestions.
Lead and participate in a small-group discussion.

In addition, the following grammatical structures will be covered in the course: Simple present and present progressive; simple past and past progressive; because and even though; reflexive and reciprocal pronouns; modals of ability and possibility; future predictions with if-clauses.
