The course will support the student with a combination of analysis skills, management tools and practical experiences which will allow him to identify the role of this specific management area within the overall strategic context and within the supply chain in particular. 3. Relevance The last two decades have brought a series of changes in the way that businesses are conducted. The accelerated rate of change in markets, products, technology and the level of global competition have turned imperative the need to reduce cost, fulfill the customers’ high expectations in quality and address the corporate/market demand for product availability with less available inventory at the lowest transactional cost. An efficient supply & purchasing management can lead performance through a changing and dynamic business environment. 4. General objective of the course: This course will be oriented towards: Acquiring the competences, skills and attitudes needed for an effective purchasing and supply performance in relation to the supply chain, the corporate strategy and the global competitive context. 5. Learning outcomes At the end of the course, students must be able to: Knowledge of concepts Acknowledge the Impact of the supply & purchasing management and supply chain management on the competitive success and profitability of modern organizations. Understand the increasingly strategic nature of supply and purchasing management. Appreciate the ethical, contractual, and legal issues faced by purchasing & supply chain professionals. Identify and apply the key elements of purchasing management from the strategic point of view to the tactical/operational. Understand the influence of purchasing on other major functional activities (product design, information systems, manufacturing planning, quality management, financial planning, as well as many others). Abilities (Applying concepts) Select the type of purchasing management to apply according to the corporate strategy, global competitive context, and the variables of the supply chain. Know how to use planning, negotiation, technology and inventory cost management to achieve specific supply goals. Apply purchasing management tools focused to accomplish performance indicators (from strategic to operational level). Attitudes (As an individual) Apply analysis methods, take decisions, and add strategic support to the supply chain management of any corporation at any internationalization level. 7. Visits According to the availability and resources, corporate visits may be programmed to visualize the course content on the corporate experience 9.
