This course is geared to students who have completed the previous course (Business English 5). These students already have general language skills, but need to strengthen and extend their English skills and competence in the field of business.

This course works to develop language skills in an integrated manner, with emphasis on writing. It aims to familiarize students with the concepts needed to write business texts from the field with a variety of purposes such as persuasive short messages, reports, and business web content. The level also gives students the necessary practice to produce effective texts with different levels of complexity. The level also emphasizes advanced grammatical concepts.


3. RATIONALE

Globalization has brought many challenges that all professionals need to face in order to be more competitive and marketable. Among these challenges is the need to adopt a foreign language that would facilitate communication within the international environment at a professional and personal level. The Instituto de Idiomas has designed this Business English program for students in order to contribute to their intellectual, professional and cultural development through English.


4. OBJECTIVES

4.1. GENERAL OBJECTIVES
This course is aimed at providing students with written communication concepts and practice to prepare them for success in English-speaking business environments while continuing to build on the other linguistic skills-speaking, reading, and listening. Students will also develop their business, communication, and critical thinking skills while continuing to use and learn international business-related vocabulary. At the end of this course, students should have a B2.2 level of English.

4.2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Reading:
-Identify the general and specific information contained in business publications and other authentic texts, including textbooks.
-Analyze effectiveness of content and design of companies electronic media (homepage, google +, twitter, facebook, blogs, etc.).

Writing:
-Produce paragraphs with sentence variety (simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences).
-Write effective routine, persuasive, and sensitive business correspondence, taking into account the audience, purpose, structure, and tone.
-Write formal report integrating outside sources, using in-text citations and reference sources in APA format.
-Write short business correspondence including emails, memos, and letters.
Produce effective text for electronic media.

Speaking:
-Speak spontaneously about course content.
