This course is geared to studentswho have completed the previous course (Business English 4), or have directly placed in this level. These students already have general language skills, but need to strengthen and extend their English skills and competence in the field of business. This level aims to raise awareness about intercultural differences and provide tools to communicate with different cultures in business contexts. While all four linguistic skills will be practiced, there will be a focus on reading.


3. RATIONALE

Globalization has brought many challenges that all professionals need to face in order to be more competitive and marketable. Among these challenges is the need to adopt a foreign language that would facilitate communication within the international environment at a professional and personal level. The Instituto de Idiomas has designed this Business English program for students in order to contribute to their intellectual, professional and cultural development through English.


4. OBJECTIVES

4.1. GENERAL OBJECTIVES
At this level, students continue to develop their communication skills and general English skills in particular, with a strong emphasis on intercultural communication. It uses an integrated skills approach with emphasis on critical reading which allows students to establish differences and similarities between the cultures studied in order to use this knowledge in their professional lives. Students during the course should be completing the B1 level of English.

4.2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Reading:
-Identify the general and specific information contained in a text, make inferences, and draw conclusions.
-Compare and contrast concepts in written texts.

Writing:
-Write simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
-Write a well-structured informational report, supported with relevant information and examples.
-Use in-text citations and reference sources using APA format.

Speaking:
-Speak spontaneously about a topics related to the content covered in the course.

Business content and communication skills:
-Apply intercultural strategies to simulated business scenarios.
-Identify key aspects of world cultures and subcultures, non-verbal communication, and other factors that differ from or are similar to learners own culture.
-Identify key components and strategies of intercultural communication.
