This is the sixth of the eight levels of the Undergraduate Program. Level six continues preparing students to use the target language communicatively by reading and discussing issues presented through written texts and audiovisual material. Writing activities encourage them to express their opinion formally thorugh the written word while speaking activities aim to motivate students to interact in social situations. Student will also have the opportunity to develop vocabulary and grammar through specific strategies within a social, as well as academic context.


3. RATIONALES
The transformation of today’s world, with the globalization of international relations, offers us a series of opportunities and challenges. Among them is the need to adopt a language as an international means of communication to gain access to the great scientific, commercial and cultural heritage of our times. Gaining access allows us to actively participate in the exchange of information, goods and services at a global level.


4. COURSE GOAL
To understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation, with some difficulty. To interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with proficient English speakers quite possible with some difficulty for either party. To produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options with some difficulty.


5. SPECIFIC OBJETIVES
At the end of the course, students will be able to:

Reading
-Identify key words and main ideas in complex texts.
-raw meaning about unfamiliar words from context.
-Understand and connect citations and reference.

Writing:
-Write short answers connected to familiar and unfamiliar texts.
-Produce a clear thesis and concluding statement, using parallel structure.
-Define concrete and abstract nouns in academic writing.
-Design a presentation handout.

Listening:
-Use context to identify reasons for listening.
-Understand and categorize different types of presentations.
-Recognise key elements and specific details in a presentation.

Speaking:
-Demonstrate appropriate use of a handout during a presentation.
-Refer to and explain charts and data.
-Produce natural, extended oral discourse with the use of visual aids.

In addition, the following grammatical structures will be covered in the course: word-preposition collocations, word forms and TOEFL related grammar structures.
