It is aimed at students in the program of International Relations that have a B2.1 CEFR (Common European Framework) level. These students have a high-intermediate English, but need to continue developing and expanding their knowledge to succeed in the field of International Relations. At this level, the focus is on strengthening of the four language skills and on current issues in the field of International Relations. 3. RATONALES Proper management of an international language such as English is necessary so that a professional in International Relations can function in an increasingly globalized and multicultural society. The internationalization of the relations between the global communities has brought about challenges that every professional needs to face in order to be more competitive. Among those challenges is adopting a language that facilitates communication - both personally and professionally - with other cultures. The Instituto de Idiomas has designed this program for International Relations English to contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and professional development of our students. 4. COURSE GOAL. After completing the course of International Relations English 7, the student should be able to: Understand the main idea and specific details of oral texts. They should be able to communicate spontaneously in everyday and professional situations. Describe experiences and events, dreams and ambitions in detail, orally and in writing. Persuade the audience with supporting views with reasons and detailed explanations in oral or written form. 5. SPECIFIC OBJETIVES After completing the course, the student should be able to: Analyze oral and written texts to make connections between specific information, inferences and conclusions. Distinguish between connotations and denotations to determine the message. Increase reading speed while maintaining comprehension. Defend an idea and argue against another idea in a formal debate. Contribute to impromptu discussions during the semester. Write a formal report, using quotations in the APA format. Compose using summary and paraphrasing strategies. Establish links between human rights; insurgency and intervention; international development; and technology and new media. Identify current trends in IR to predict future realities in the field. 6.
