It is offered to students that have a b2.1 level of english. These students have a high-intermediate english knowledge but need to continue developing and expanding their language skills in order to succeed in the field. This level continues strengthening of the four language skills, grammar, and vocabulary, focusing on the topics related to intercultural communication, including the communication between individuals, subcultures within one state, communication between states, and between blocs of power. This level aims to raise awareness about effective strategies of intercultural communication in order to avoid misunderstandings when communication between two cultures takes place. 3. RATIONALE Proper management of an international language such as English is necessary so that a professional can function in an increasingly globalized and multicultural society. The internationalization of the relations between the global communities has brought about challenges that every professional needs to face in order to be more competitive. Among those challenges is adopting a language that facilitates communication - both personally and professionally - with other cultures. The instituto de idiomas has designed this program to contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and professional development of our students. 4. OBJECTIVES 4.1. GENERAL OBJECTIVE Understand the main points and specific details of standard spoken and written language about matters regularly encountered in work, school, and leisure. Communicate spontaneously in most situations encountered in areas where the language is spoken. Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and persuade audiences giving detailed reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. Identify, evaluate, and discuss methods of persuasion and argumentation. 4.2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES -Analyze several readings and/or listenings on a certain topic to choose relevant information. -Synthesize information from various sources (listening and texts). -Make inferences and draw conclusions about information that is not clearly stated in the text. -Respond to questions with clear and concise language. -Write press-releases and an Op-ed with diplomatic language. -Use formal language effectively in IR-related communication. -Produce paragraphs with sentence variety (simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences). -Analyze key moments of miscommunication in IR historical events. -Analyze purpose, interest, and bias of different types of IR-related communication. 5.
