This course is the third of the program and is offered to students who have been placed at level B1.1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework). These students have an intermediate knowledge of English, but need to develop and expand this knowledge into the area of International Relations.

This level starts with the B1 development. It will focus on strengthening the four basic skills of language along with grammar and general vocabulary as well as vocabulary specific to International Relations. It also promotes the development of skills in critical thinking through the analysis of current events and environmental topics related to International Relations.


3. RATIONALE

Proper management of an international language such as English is necessary so that a professional can function in an increasingly globalized and multicultural society. The internationalization of the relations between the global communities has brought about challenges that every professional needs to face in order to be more competitive. Among those challenges is adopting a language that facilitates communication - both personally and professionally - with other cultures.


4. OBJECTIVES

4.1. GENERAL OBJECTIVES
On the completion of this course students should be able to confidently understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. To confidently interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with proficient English speakers quite possible without strain for either party. To confidently produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

4.2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Understand the main and ideas and details of standard written and oral texts dealing with information common to the work place, studies, and hobbies. Communicate spontaneously in some situations when the language is used. Describe experiences and events, dreams and ambitions, briefly giving opinions and describing plans in oral and written form. Give short opinions with reasons in oral and written form. Analyze and discuss current events and environmental issues relevant to International Relations.
