-This subject presents the evolution of Colombian foreign trade and its firm and sustainable integration within the globalization process of world economy; the development of its foreign trade and the different import, export, custom’s transit, international exchanges, free trade zones which have taken great importance through the mechanisms to promote national investment and industrialization searching a more dynamic management due to the challenges implied in the national and enterprise internationalization.


3. JUSTIFICATION:

-Foreign Commerce contributes to form in International Business students a conceptual and strategic vision of the legal frames, agreements, organisms and specific productive variables which rule commercial operations of enterprises. Foreign Trade plays a structural role in the economic development of countries and even more when these economies are in the globalization process which will bring a series of significant effects and changes into the environment where these enterprises commonly develop their activities and execute their business plans. It is of vital importance for the professional in International Business to know and widen the management vision derived from the internationalization of the economies which will allow him to improve the processes of strategic decision making.


4. COMPETENCE TO BE DEVELOPED:

-To manage and administer the different processes involved in the import, export, customs transit, international changes and free trade zones with the aim of making enterprise decisions which involve foreign commerce.


5. COURSE GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

-This course offers a theoretical-practical formation in foreign trade and therefore, we will study and analyze the conceptualization of Colombian foreign trade which is necessary for the development of operations, and the analysis and solutions of problems derived from the process of opening to new markets developed by enterprises in their internationalization processes. We will develop a work program based on theoretical practical sessions which will be complemented with the development by students of complementary work related to each module or knowledge blocks of the course.


6. LEARNING OUTCOMES
-At the end of the course, students will be able to:

-Define the basic concepts of foreign trade in such a way that students can contextualize its structural framework
-Identify the different institutions and norms which rule Colombian Foreign Trade.
-Define and/or explain the most relevant fundamental concepts of foreign trade.
-Understand, identify and explain the different existing competitive instruments in foreign trade.

-Abilities (knowing how) Apply competitive instruments related with decision making.
-Apply in a correct way the existing norms for the development of foreign trade operations.
-Apply the concepts acquired in the foreign trade decision making operations.

-Attitudes -knowing to do- Strengthen the analysis and decision making ability which will allow students to widen managerial vision and select the adequate option, applying the different concepts involved in foreign trade management.

8. METHODOLOGICAL OPTIONS-LEARNING ACTIVITIES

-Description
-Active learning. The course will be developed with the active learning methodology looking for fundaments, analysis and the application of concepts.
-Readings The student will follow the course with previous readings assigned by the professor.
-Workshops, cases and presentations Research work, workshops, practical cases and presentations of the topics assigned for the semester will be developed.
-Individual and group work. Students will have the opportunity the ways to make decisions and exchange ideas that will lead to the application of concepts and to strengthen the management vision of foreign trade.
-Other tools Tools such as videos, support material, internet and bibliography will also be used.


9. EVALUATION

-Learning evidence Evaluation period Percentage of final grade
-First Partial Exam All related with the history and structure of Colombian foreign trade, the main contracts, types of payments and harmonized tariff will be evaluated. Week 6 25%
-Second Partial Exam The evaluation will include the import and export regimes through practical cases. Week12 25%
-Works, presentations and workshops Throughout the semester 25%
-Final Exam Development and argumentation of practical cases where all the knowledge acquired during the course Management of Foreign Trade is applied. Week16 25%
